We toured Hong Kong Island on day 2 of our visit. Our first stop was Victoria Peak, overlooking the coastline of HK. We took a cable car up to the peak for photos of the harbor and skyscrapers that line the coastline. The tallest building in Hong Kong is 182 floors.
Chinese people are big followers of feng shui, a philosophy that seeks to provide harmony with the environment. "Feng Shui" means wind-water, both of which are associated with good health and fortune. If your house faces a body of water, you will enjoy good health and prosperity. The Chinese also enjoy gambling and are very superstituious.
Next we took a short ride on a Chinese sampan, a flat bottom wooden boat used for fishing or transportation. We visited a jade and pearl factory, then went to the outdoor Stanley market, where you can bargain with vendors on the price of their goods. I purchased 2 Chinese jackets for 480 Hong Kong dollars, which is equivalent to about $60 US dollars.
