About Rick and Bev

We are retirees from Dayton, Ohio, and we love to travel!  Rick retired from engineering at Standard Register in 2008, while Bev just retired in May 2017 from Wright State University where she was a Senior Lecturer in the Biological Sciences department.  We have two grown daughters, Jennifer and Whitney.

Our previous travels include visits to all 50 U.S. States; cruises to the Caribbean, Central America, the Mediterranean, Hawaii and Alaska; land travels in Western Europe; Macchu Picchu and the Galápagos Islands; and a safari in Kenya. In addition, Rick traveled to Dubai, Oman, Israel, Greece, and Istanbul on a cruise with Whitney.

A round-the-world cruise has been on our bucket list for years. We chose the inaugural World Cruise with Viking because of its itinerary.  We didn't want to spend time at a lot of places we had already visited. This tour includes not only several "must see" destinations for us--Cuba, New Zealand, Australia, Bangkok, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Petra in Jordan--but also exotic South Pacific islands, Southeast Asia, and passage through the Panama and Suez Canals.  It will give us a taste of cultures on 5 continents without having to pack/unpack and move to new hotels every few days.

We look forward to meeting fellow world travelers and exploring amazing destinations!

  1. Bev,

Can you also include occasional commentary about the shipboard activities during your sea days and the evening ship entertainment? We are on the viking Sun now cruising up the Amazon from San Juan, and the entertainment package has been shockingly weak, causing us to re-evaluate our booking on the Viking sun world cruise next year, Jan., 2019.

  2. Bev & Rick have the time of your life living your dream! So far this trip has to be so fulfilling for a biology teacher. Rick, knowing how you like to ski we wonder if you miss it yet?
We are assessing where to go next year for 4 months so we'll try to find you when you return next year. Costa Rica is a place we'd like to park ourselves for about 2 months and explore the area from the Panama Canal to the Galapagos Islands. Thanks for the pictures and the summaries. Have a great time! Happy New Year! Debbie & Marty

  3. Hello Bev and Rick! We are enjoying your wonderful blog! We unfortunately had to cancel our trip due to Roy's emergency spine surgery. This occurred a month before our scheduled departure from Miami. So we are vicariously enjoying the voyage through your blog. Your photos and descriptions of the day are excellent. I discovered you via someone on Cruise Critic who thought your blog was terrific. So onward you all go. Wish we were there with you. Happy Travels!
