Goa, the smallest of the 29 states, is located on the southwest coast of India on the Arabian Sea. The landscape is gently rolling hills and tropical vegetation. About 80% of the land is forest. Because Goa was a Portuguese colony in the 1600s, the architecture has European influences. About 25% of the population in Goa is Roman Catholic, so there are several beautiful Catholic churches in Old Goa that are 400 years old. We toured:
- the Bom Jesus Basilica, built in 1600, Baroque style, has the remains of St Francis Xavier
- the Se Cathedral de Santa Catarina, built in 1640, the largest church is Asia
- Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Baroque style, built in 1609
